So, like I said last month, this month started with the
funeral of my Grandma Francell “Suzie” Boman. We got the news late Thursday
night and then my brother and I were headed out on Friday night with three kids
in tow (a 1-yr-old, and 2 10-month-olds). We drove all night and met up with
our parents in Cheyenne, WY to drive the rest of the way together. By the time
we finally got there on Saturday afternoon we were all pooped and I was SICK. I
still haven’t figured out if it was sleep deprivation + a 5-hour energy drink
that did it or if I just got a stomach bug. Either way, I was miserable! The
next morning (Easter Sunday) I felt a little better, but not much so I asked my
dad for a blessing and then went to bed for a while. When I woke up I felt much
better and decided I had better make good use of my time and go see some
family. So, Chett and I got ready and headed out. The girls called me and told
me all about their Easter morning and how the Easter Bunny came and left them
movies and candy and hid eggs all over the house and even outside in the yard!
They had a lot of fun with daddy! I am so glad I married that wonderful man! He
is so supportive and willing to jump in and do anything necessary to make my
life just a little better and easier. Anyways, I made a stop by my grandma’s apartment. All
her knick knacks were sitting in the window (I cried when I saw them). I wanted
to stay for a little while, but some of the other tenants were giving me funny
looks for just hanging around, so I left. I stopped by my aunts house in
Brigham, and my cousin’s house in Roy. I was so glad to be able to see my
cousin, Cass! She is so much fun and I just love to spend time with her! Then I
headed over to my BFF’s house to meet her baby boy (who was already a year old,
almost, by the time I met him!). He is such a little cutie! He did NOT like
Chett being around his mommy though, HA HA! It was so nice to catch up and reminisce
with Katie and her family. Love ya Katie!! Then I went to my aunt’s in Pleasant
View and had some “girl talk” with my aunt and cousin (Cass again). Good conversation,
ladies…Ha ha! By then it was about midnight so I figured I better head home (an
hour drive) and get Chett into bed…poor guy!
The next day we did a little shopping in Logan and then had
the viewing in Brigham. It was good to see family and be together. Grandma
looked good, at peace. It was hard to go to the viewing, and even harder to go
up to the casket, but I am glad that I did.
The next morning (Tuesday) was the funeral. It was a
beautiful service filled with music and singing. Just what grandma loved! She
had requested that the grandkids and their families sing “I Belong to the
Church of Jesus Christ”. I’m so glad other people were singing too because if
it were just me up there, everyone would have been listening to the piano play.
I had no voice, just sniffles. The
gravesite was beautiful. Grandma is buried by her son (my dad), her
grand-daughter (my sister), and her parents. I am so glad that they are all
together now and that Grandma Suzie is happy and in a better place. I will miss
so many things about my grandma: her laugh, her smile, her humming, her
generosity, the way she would call to talk and want to know every little detail
about everything that was going on, her testimony, and most of all spending
time with her. She is a woman that I very much admire and hope to be like her
in every way possible. I can’t wait to be with her and my family again and I
know it will be a sweet reunion.
After the funeral, we wasted no time in getting on the road
to head back to MO. I had to be back the next day so that Brevin could get back
to work on Thursday. Also, he had been watching my daycare kiddos for me while
I was gone and he had HAD it! So, we drove all day and all night again (this
time with our mom in tow too) and got back home Wednesday evening. The girls
were so happy to see me. They were pretty upset with me for going to Utah and
not taking them with (there weren’t enough seats in the car for everyone).
This month we have been able to spend a lot of time outside.
We went on a walk at the Wildcat Glades Park here in Joplin. It was quite a
long walk for the kids, but they had a lot of fun.
On Saturday, the 27th we had a Color Me RAD 5K
run that Brevin and I had signed up a while ago to do. We were going to take
the girls and Chett with us and just kind of walk/run it for fun as a family
and then we were going to take the girls to Silver Dollar City, but it was
rainy and yucky. So, Brevin and I headed to the run and left the kids with
Grandma Johnson (good thing we did too, Aspen got sick while we were gone). The
run was so much fun!!
We are planning on signing up for another one sometime
and taking the kids to that one. I think the kids will just love it!
